The Importance of Diving Hoods

Hoods help to ensure your body temperature does not drop quickly in cold water. They are typically made with neoprene and cover more than just the diver’s head — they usually include a lot of the forehead, jaws, and cheeks. Hoods, generally, also feature a large bib that can be tucked into your wetsuit’s neck opening. This practice helps to reduce the transfer of water in the suit, working to keep the heat in!

Choosing a Hood That’s Right For You

Fortunately, we carry an assortment of thicknesses — so you are sure to find something perfect for you and your next dive! Here’s a quick breakdown of different thicknesses’ respective applications:

A 5+ mm hood that covers your neck is ideal for colder water temperatures such as that of New Jersey.
